A person is made up of ten bodies. Contained within these ten bodies are three psychological modes, or “minds”. These mental bodies are constituted of the Positive Mind, the Negative Mind, and the Neutral Mind.

Each mind represents a different psychological state. Throughout our lives and our Kundalini journeys we will spend time existing within a bias towards each of these minds.

The goal is to exist within the positive or negative minds as little as possible, achieving and maintaining the neutral mind whenever appropriate. In this guide we will explore the neutral mind further, and take a look at some of the things we can do to help to achieve this state.

What is the Neutral Mind?

The best way to understand the neutral mind is to understand the context of the negative and positive minds first, as people who have not learned to train their minds are predisposed to process their thoughts using their negative or positive minds.

The positive mind is the expansive mind. It is fast to act, acting on impulse or compulsion, rather than planned and considered responses. The positive mind does not properly weigh up risks and possible issues, and can end up getting us in trouble.

People who are inclined towards the positive mind are optimistic and sociable, but also often chaotic and find themselves in sticky situations.

On the opposite side of the spectrum exists the negative mind. The negative mind is cautious, anxious, and even paranoid. It can be self-conscious, and opportunities can be missed due to reticence to take risks and progress within situations.

The neutral mind is the midpoint between the two. It is the meditative mind, which brings a careful and fulfilling balance between positivity and negativity. People who exist within the neutral mind are able to make decisions that they feel comfortable with, having weighed up all options with an open mind.

Neutral minded people are great listeners, offering appropriate advice without bias. They are often loyal and thoughtful friends, compassionate, and good in a crisis. For most people a neutral mind is not a natural position, and it takes work to achieve and maintain the Fourth Body.

How to Achieve a Neutral Mind

Many Kundalini yoga practices will help to lead a person towards a neutral mind. Taking time to develop a personal sadhana can put you in good stead, and help to develop intuition and a sense of trust in the self.

This regular routine of kriyas, meditations, mantras and breathing exercises can be modified and adapted to suit your lifestyle and needs. It also encourages you to reflect on the changes you need to make to achieve your personal goals.

Create a space within the home that allows you to access the mindset. Buy a good quality yoga mat, and take time developing the aromatherapy, lighting, and soundtrack that best helps you to focus on meditation.

Continue Your Journey

All three minds have a place within life, and can benefit us at appropriate times. However, being able to access and maintain the neutral mind is a strength that can be developed through daily Kundalini yoga practice.
